What the school does daily
Each teacher marks the roll at the beginning of each class.
The names of the children absent are reported to the student office.
Each school should have an assigned Attendance Officer who managers attendance systems in the school.
As part of this system your school may phone home or other contact numbers when a student is absent without notification. Some schools now operate a TXTing system to call Caregivers of non attending students.
Poor patterns of attendance (Truancy) are followed up by the Attendance Service, Child Youth & Family or Youth Aide Police.
Parents can be prosecuted if their child or children are truant from school.
Lateness to school can be as serious as truancy. Schools monitor lateness carefully.
When there are genuine reasons for children not attending.
Eg. Your child is unwell, you should let the school know promptly by phoning the school office.
There will be times when dental or medical appointments are necessary in school hours. In some cases it might be possible to arrange these after hours or in school holidays.
