Questions and answers for DTS providers about the introduction of the new integrated attendance service.
The Minister of Education has agreed to implementing the new Attendance Service from term 1, 2013. The integrated Attendance Service will now offer services to schools from the start of 2013.
The existing District Truancy Service (DTS) and Non-Enrolled Truancy Service (NETS) agreements have been extended to the end of term 4, 2012.
The Attendance Pilots in South Auckland, Gisborne and the East Coast have been extended until 21 December 2012.
The extended timeframe will allow for a smooth transition to the integrated Attendance Service without a break in service delivery for schools, minimising the risks to learners’ attendance and their achievement.
Once appointed, the new Attendance Service lead provider(s) will have time to prepare for the delivery of an effective service from.
They will:
establish the structure of the integrated Attendance Service in their region
incorporate the knowledge and experience of effective practice of the existing DTS and NETS
recruit, induct and train staff
build relationships with schools and social service agencies.
As you can see from this there is no place for the MoE comment saying
