Central and South Taranaki
(Check the map)
I provide for the Central and South Taranaki Districts District Truancy Service.
Consider this:
I employ 2 staff and myself for the South DTS
One is 10 hours. (Covers the Patea/Waverley Districts) The other is 20 hrs. (Covers Opunake and Coastal Districts) I am 20 hrs. (Hawera Districts)
In Central DTS I am a sole operator at 20 hrs (Central Taranaki Districts)
All staff are on an NZEI Support Staff Salary Scale
In the South we operate three offices one in each of our major low attendance areas. Opunake HS, Patea Area School, Hawera Intermediates, Stratford HS = NO COST (as they are provided by the School)
Administration and incidentals at one (DTS) service cost $2000 per/ann.
The other = NO COST as I do it
Audited accounts are done by the schools I base at = NO COST.
This infrastructure has taken some years to set up.
I have only just skimmed the surface here and in this skimming is a HUGE cost that a NEW provider will have to pay to set up.
This does NOT include all OTHER interventions within that structure which has NO COST.
You as a NEW provider will NOT have access to any of this unless you SUBCONTRACT the existing DTS's
Oh and by the way that is also NOT including the philanthropic funding that can be accessed by my services.
That is: If you are housed out of my districts you have NO access to this.
Many District Truancy Services's feel now, that the 'proposed providers' are NOT wanting the services of the current DTS as NO ONE has contacted them to discuss conditions except for the organisation who is currently involved with NETS who knows the business of NON attendance.
It sounds like! there is going to be a few NON experienced services operating?
I guess the MoE does have OUR handbooks through the 'Environmental Scan' to pass onto them.
Shouldn't this be a worry? What ever happened to the COLLABORATION ?
Just food for thought.
