Rock On Letter
Delivered by Police
Dear
Project Rock On was set up by the Hamilton Police in 2003 to combat the increasing problem with truancy and a corresponding increase in day time crime in the area.
It is based on the inter agency approach where a number of people meet monthly to discuss ways and means or engaging youth who are truant or non-enrolled, back into the education system in the most appropriate manner. We liaise closely with the schools in our area and other alternative education providers to help identify those youth who have a truancy problem or are non-enrolled.
The law states that a child must attend school up to the age of 16 years, unless they have an exemption to attend a course or take a job offer
(name) has been identified as a regular truant/non-enrolled and discussions are currently taking place to implement a plan for him/her to attend school on a daily basis. As his/her parent/caregiver, you are responsible for ensuring (name) attends school whenever it is open for instruction. You can be prosecuted if they do not attend.
This letter is to make you aware or your obligations and to advise you that you will be contacted to discuss the support we can offer you to make this happen. If you have any questions in relation to this project, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours Sincerely
